I’m In it….. are you?

I have been waiting to annouce formally that I am running a Marathon later this year. By all accounts I have choosen the hardest Marathon in the UK, my local one, the Snowdonia Marathon. I heard late last night after sending an email that my application has been accepted, so I now have 3 months to get prepared.

One of the main reasons that I am running it is not only for the immense personal challenge, but I also want to try and raise funds for Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, where along with fellow rescue team member Brian Will we are going to try and raise as much money as possible to help the team fund its ongoing work rescuing climbers, hillwalker and other users of the Mountainous terrain in and around Snowdon.

I am sure you’ll get bored of me blogging about both my training and fundraising efforts, more of which on my goal for the marathon in a later blog, probably sometime next week, as it fits in with a couple of stories that will make more sense after Sunday!

Anyway, There is a link to mine and Brian’s Just Giving Site below. There is also a link to a small website about the challenge here, we are trying to get some corporate sponsor on board, so if there is anything that you can offer us, even if it is just a raffle prize or some free advertising, I will put you a banner up on this website until the Marathon. I’ll get a just giving icon up on the side bar at some point so you can see how badly we are doing on the fundraising front.

XX year old XXXXXX climbs XX

Psyching up for the Crux

Is was hearten today to see on UKC that a 12 year old girl climbed a F8a+/b, its heartening to know that climbing has moved on so much that a 12 year old can burn off 98% of the worlds climbers. My house mate pointed out that they must have been waiting to use that headline over at UKC for some time, and it was as good as Freddie Star Ate My Hamster.

I would imagine that they have a few written up already, with different permutations, the age can now be at either end of the spectrum from 12 or under now, or alternatively 65 or above. The next alteration, can be boy, climb, father of six, grandad, grandma, retiree, transvestite, post operational transsexual, etc… Then you can pick whatever grading system you like from the alphabet A, E, F, WI, V, M…

So be on the look out for the headline 65 Year Old Post Operational Transsexual Grandfather of Six Sea Monkeys climbs F8b+.

I was out in the park with my friends kids this evening, and there 1 year old manage to smear her way up the slide, it looked like a F6c+ slab to me. Maybe I should get onto Jack with my cutting edge news headline 1 Year Old Girl Climbs Slide. She burnt off her older sister who despite being a year older took her 2 years to complete the challenge of the Slide of Doom as her younger sister has now named the problem!

We are looking into getting a film crew in to make a documentary, unfortunately we having come up with anything as catchy as Grit Kids yet but due to the current need for nappies Shit Kids is a firm favourite.

On the Blog: Non-Runner’s Marathon Trainer

Well this week I have switched my toilet reading to Whisslet, Dolgener and Kole’s best selling The Non-Runner Marathon Trainer. It is a good book, and the two lead authors have used the format that the book covers to teach a class at university over several which culminates in running a Marathon. The class requires running homework, and recording your weekly mileage, how they felt and other notes.
The obvious question is what the hell am I doing with a book on how to run a Marathon, well I am just looking at it at the moment, as the 16 week training programme doesn’t start for a few weeks yet, and I am already doing the necessary mileage. Although I am not looking forward to having to run 18+ miles in one go towards the end of the training programme.
I was loaned the book by Rob @ V12, it should help me prepare well for my run. I have had a little skim read today, worked out I am neither flat footed nor do I have a over pronounce arch. I am somewhat normal and boring. Its first piece of advice is to buy a good pair of running shoes, which I probably need to wait for my wages to go into my account, although my current shoes are OK, although they might not last till October!

Websites

I realise that i totally hate websites design, and maintenance, mainly because as you can see I am really not very good at it. After nearly ruining this site, by trying to update the layout, I have to say I actually want the background to be black, but can’t seem to get that to work, even though I downloaded the Minima Black template!

It took me about 6 hours yesterday to recover the site enough to look like it does now, and I still can’t get a picture at the top! So in this heat my hair has been coming out rapidally. So think I would try and get round this by downloading Joomla and designing a totally new layout so I could include all my sites in one location, I have now wasted the best part of half a day trying to get it installed on my Mac.
I have decided that I need a web designer to make me a website, I am willing to pay for it as well. It would save me days of my life and knock years onto my life with the lack of stress. All I want is a website that I can update like a blog, have its own wiki, show my photos and my instructing website in one place. It can’t be that hard can it?

Sorry about the layout

I have manage to totally screw up the layout by trying to add a column, I thought I had save the old one but can’t get it back up.

I have stopped pulling my hair out, and will return tomorrow to become a bald man hopefully get it back up with an extra column!

Arrrrrggghhh!!!!

Anyone know anything about these things?
